Simple Overnight Oats Recipe

Health Benefits of Oats


Oats are especially high in a specific type of heart healthy fibre called soluble fibre, specifically beta-glucan.


High quality research has shown that consuming beta-glucan from oats regularly helps to significantly lower LDL-cholesterol, also known as "bad" cholesterol (2).


Fibre is also great for keeping you full throughout the day, stabilizing blood sugars, promoting healthy digestion and increasing the beneficial bacteria in your gut.



Customizing the Recipe


  1. Choose a protein. It is important to include protein at each meal. Great protein options for this overnight oats recipe includes 3/4 cup Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of unsalted roasted nuts, 2 tbsp of nut butter, etc.

  2. Choose your favourite fruit. Fruit provides extra beneficial fibre, plus beneficial vitamins and minerals and antioxidants to support heart health. Choose your favourite kind to enjoy with the oats.

  3. Choose optional additional flavour factors. Oatmeal is like a blank canvas. Experiment painting it in new and exciting ways by adding optional ingredients based on your preferences. Some options to add flavour include but are not limited to adding a dash of cinnamon, vanilla extract, cacao powder, matcha powder, a touch of honey or maple syrup, etc.




Overnight Oats RECIPE


Base Ingredients 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup milk (or more if you prefer the oats runnier)

3/4 cup Greek yogurt

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp ground flax seeds


Optional Toppings*

1/2-1 cup fresh or frozen fruits

1/4 cup unsalted roasted nuts

Honey or maple syrup (to taste)


*Choose your own favourite toppings.


Yield: 1 serving


Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a jar or container.

  2. Cover container and store in fridge overnight.

  3. Enjoy in the morning!
